I moved to Sikeston when I was in second grade, from my birthplace, Columbia, South Carolina. I graduated from Sikeston, married my high school sweetheart, and began a family. I have three children, Payton, Lauren, and Kinsley. I have one grandson, Aiden, and one granddaughter, Everly. Unfortunately for me, they all live in Alabama. I love summer because I get the opportunity to visit my babies. (They are all grown but they are still my babies!)
In 2006, I married Danny Ware, an investigator with the New Madrid County Sherriff’s Office. He’s a long suffering fellow who was duped into being the executioner of my grand plans for my classroom. (Read: Honey, I want to ______, can you build that?)
We have one dog, a puggle, named Cosmo. He is spoiled, needy, and neurotic. I don’t know where he gets that from. We adopted a kitten from P.A.W.S. this summer and we named her Lady Sadie. Danny and I love her! Cosmo is a grumpy old man and he tolerates her at best. .
I am a completely different creature during summer break! I am a hermit. I lounge around in sweats and a t-shirt with no make up. If I HAVE to get out of the house, I put on a little make up (Unless I’m going to Lowes!), shorts, a t-shirt, and flip flops.
For fun, I read. I read a lot! I don’t have much time during the school year to read for fun, so I more than make up for it during the summer. Most days, in the summer, I read 2-3 books a day.
I spend tons of time on Pintrest. I’m addicted and I am not ashamed to admit it. I find a ton of educational ideas from Pintrest. (Not to mention recipes and memes!)
I love zombies! I love watching The Walking Dead. My favorite zombie movies are Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland. I play zombies on Call of Duty as well as the regular COD. This summer my husband and I jumped in to COD Blackout. We are horrible but we are improving! I love it because I get to spend time with my family. We often play with my brother and my daughter and her husband. Unfortunately, I don’t get to play a lot during the school year.
I love to listen to music. The music I listen to depends on what kind of mood I am in. Mostly I listen to Top 40 radio stuff, but I love my 80’s hair bands! Some of my favorite moments are when I am home alone and I can sing and dance around my house. (Cosmo, my dog, is not impressed with either of these skills.)
I have social anxiety and panic attacks. I share this with you because I have A LOT of students who struggle with this as well. Sometimes it is a daily battle and other times it’s quite easy. It’s difficult for me to do public speaking engagements, meet new people, and experience new things. For some reason, teaching doesn’t fall into the category of making me nervous for those reasons. I personally believe it’s because this is what I was born to do, it’s my gift. It also helps me to REALLY understand my students apprehensions about what I require them to do because I have to do it too!
The single most important thing I’d like for you to know about me is that I love my job. I really do! I love pre-teens and teens. I’m a strict teacher and I expect a lot out of my students. I don’t put up with a lot of foolishness. I want the best for my students and I want to send them to the high school prepared to succeed. Will I push you? Yes. Will I nag you. Yes. Will you hate me at times? Probably. (Especially 4th quarter) That’s ok. When you leave me, I want you to be able to look back and say, “Man, Mrs. Ware was tough, but I learned a lot!”
